Founded in 2020, Bay State Connection Dragons’ (BSCD) vision is to support breast cancer survivors and supporters in thriving during and after diagnosis through dragon boating.

Our mission as an international dragon boat team is to improve the lives of breast cancer survivors by providing camaraderie, hope, and support, working together across Massachusetts, inspiring new experiences, and forming long-lasting friendships worldwide.

This unique composite team draws from members who belong to home teams around the Bay State: Wellness Warriors of Boston, Paradise City Dragon Boat of Northampton, and the Springfield Dragon Rays. Despite the miles separating them, BSCD members demonstrate their commitment and dedication to their team by gathering regularly. Fun is always on the agenda. Tackling problem-solving games and exercises as small groups in friendly competition, BSCD members learn how one another's individual differences can create success as a cohesive unit. Trust and close bonds grow from sharing meals, rituals and traveling together to new places.

Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the BSCD team participated in the 2023 International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission (IBCPC) festival in New Zealand. Now fully formed as an ongoing team after our New Zealand adventure, BSCD provides continuing opportunities for breast cancer survivors to build strength and health through paddling, to deepen their connections to each other, and to participate in US and international events.
